I don’t want to tap into the epic fear of missing out, but seriously, what if you miss out on a new essay? I write and I cook, those are the two things I do that connect me with others while also quite honestly isolating myself from others. What a fucking dichotomy. I write, whether it is published or someone reads it or I am paid. It’s how my brain works, and I need an outlet to work these things out. I follow the thread on my obsessions, trying to break down why I care. I’m interested in construction, how and why we create interest, why we value what we value, and how we are being manipulated. Hey, sounds intense, I know, that’s why these ideas have to get outside of my brain! I’ve milked cows, bought and sold punk rock, out jazz, metal and indie rock, cooked in restaurants both scrappy and over-funded and over-blown. I grew up in a world before computers and cell phones and now I have both. That is some crazy shit to think about. I’m not a prepper or a Luddite. I just don’t have that kind of energy.
